Committee members are graphic design educators from across the UK.
Each is co-opted for up to three years on a voluntary basis, and will be succeeded in 2018.
As Lecturer in Visual Communication (Graphic Design) at Loughborough University School of the Arts, English and Drama, Dr Harland supervises PhD students and teaches at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. He is also the School lead for the University ‘Changing Environments and Infrastructure’ challenge.
His primary research examines how urban graphic objects contribute to the identity, structure and meaning of the city. He has also published pedagogic research on assessment criteria in art and design.

Darren is Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Graphic Design and Senior Lecturer with the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford. Darren is a Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellow, and has been an educator at London College of Communication, Staffordshire University and the University of Huddersfield.
His current EdD research at Staffordshire University explores how graphic design educators form their academic identities and how they negotiate the liminalities between the institution and embedding their own professional experience.

Kirsten is Associate Professor and teaches upon BA (Hons) Graphic Design. She is a Higher Education Academy (HEA) National Teaching Fellow and an HEA Academic Associate. Kirsten is Chair of the Association of National Teaching Fellows; Co-Chair of the Multinational Teaching Fellows Group and is a member of the Group for Learning in Art and Design.
Her pedagogic research includes: posters as learning tools; problem-based learning; role play; and design objects as pedagogic tools. Further research areas include: packaging design; kitsch and taste; flock; and plastics.

James is Principal Lecturer in Graphic Design at Sheffield Hallam University where he is also departmental Learning, Teaching and Assessment Lead, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is an intermittent book designer, and is currently undertaking a PhD within the field of educational research.
His research interests include graphic design pedagogy, and specifically how the framing of graphic design as a social and cultural practice impacts on students’ conceptions of the discipline.

Professor Moseley is Teaching Fellow and Head of Graphic Communication within the Cardiff School of Art and Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University, shortly to succeed as Dean of Art and Design. She is founder of the Cardiff Design Festival, celebrating the success of the design community in Wales, and advocates the importance to society of design.
Teaching interests include typography, idea generation, information design and inclusive design practice. Her chair is based on her work facilitating links between academia and industry, and the public understanding of design

Phil Healey is Head of Department for Visual Arts in the School of Art and Design at Middlesex University. He has taught at Newcastle Polytechnic, Reading College of Art and Design, The School of Communication Arts, and Kent Institute of Art and Design (Maidstone).
He has extensive high-level experience in the creative industries working in graphic design, illustration and publishing; and for design consultants including Allied International Designers, The Small Back Room, Fitch, Wolff Olins and Planet X.

Catherine is Teaching Excellence and Enhancement Coordinator at the University of the Arts London. Previously a senior lecturer and course leader in the School of Design at London College of Communication, her current work is in educational development across University of the Arts London.
Her interests include student engagement, co-production and design writing. She is also interested in applying design strategies to the evaluation of educational development projects.

Fundraising And Professional Links Officer
As Principal Lecturer in the Department of Media and Communication Design at Northumbria University, Jamie’s roles span Learning and Teaching of Graphic and Interaction Design, Research and Innovation, and Business and Engagement. In the latter, he leads on the strategic development and operational management of live projects, initiatives and partnerships.
His teaching, research, writing and consultancy is concerned with the intersection of business, design, education and technology. Recent consultancy with design and tech start-ups has helped to create compelling business propositions.

Tracy is Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Graphic Communication at the Birmingham City University where she teaches across undergraduate levels on the graphic design course, alongside illustration, photography, film and animation programmes. Currently she is external examiner at the University of Bedfordshire. Tracy is fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her practice-based research explores representations of lost language. Using focus groups and live interviews, she reflects upon linguistic culture and convention, applying analysis to typography. Recent collaborations include Doric (Scotland) and Cornish (Cornish Language Partnership).

Lucy is Senior Lecturer for BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Illustration with the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies at Staffordshire University. Lucy is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and has been an educator at London College of Communication, Stockport University Centre and Liverpool John Moores.
Her research interests are currently centred on better introducing the non-linear nature of the creative process to entry-level undergraduate students via the exploration of a physical landscape.

Ian is part-time tutor for final-year undergraduate and master students in graphic design at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh, and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is sole-tutor for the courses ‘Introduction to Graphic Design’ and ‘Developing Graphic Design’ within the University of Edinburgh’s Office of Lifelong Learning.
His full-time PhD research at University of Edinburgh investigates student visualisations of their graphics education and their future professions by using graphic methods of research inquiry and exposition.

Paul is an Irish graphic designer, researcher and lecturer based in London. He is currently Course Leader MA Graphic Media Design, London College of Communication, UAL, co-founder of occasional graphic design studio We Draw Lines and a founding member of the Design Displacement Group.
Paul’s on-going practice-based research, motivated by an interest in the contingent nature of meaning, surveys the acts of reading and watching against the backdrop of new and emergent information environments.

Justin is Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Graphic Arts and Design programme at Leeds Beckett University. Previously a Senior Teaching Fellow and Graphic Design Pathway Leader in Graphic Arts at Winchester School of Art, and a Lecturer at the University of Salford and Leeds College of Art.
His pedagogical research focus is interdisciplinary graphic design practice, student engagement, and teaching and learning environments in design. These activities draw upon professional practice in industry as a multi-disciplinary graphic designer working across diverse fields.

Will is Deputy Head of School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University, and Course Leader, MA Graphic Design and Typography. He also teaches on the BA Graphic Design and contributes lectures and supervision to MA Children’s Book Illustration and MA Publishing.
Will’s research and practice is primarily concerned with the visual form of language and letters, through typography, type design, and the history of type and letterforms. This work draws upon a professional background encompassing editorial illustration, publishing and design consultancy.
